Toiling and fitting in London is where your existing pattern proves itself, or shows you exactly where it doesn't. We make the toile and review your pattern side by side, confirming fit, construction and production readiness before a single piece is cut in your real fabric.

Why a Pattern That Looks Right on Paper Can Still Fail in Fabric
A pattern can measure perfectly and still not work. Seams that match on the table can twist once they're sewn. A neckline that looks balanced flat can gape on a body. A bodice drafted for one fabric can collapse in another.
None of that shows on paper. It shows in cloth, on a stand or a body, and the cheapest cloth to find it in is a toile.
What Toiling and Fitting Actually Checks
We make the toile from your pattern and fit it on a stand or on a live model, depending on what your project needs. Then we check three things:
- Fit: proportion, balance and ease, and whether the garment sits the way you designed it
- Construction: whether the seams, darts and closures go together cleanly, in the order production needs
- Production readiness: whether the pattern can be cut and made repeatedly, not just once

Pattern Revision: Refining the Pattern You Already Have
Pattern revision is about refinement, not reinvention. We work from your pattern, whether you send it on paper or as a digital file, and correct what the toile reveals. It might be a shoulder that needs adjusting, a bodice that needs more support, or a hem that needs rebalancing.
The aim is simple. When the pattern leaves us, it's ready to go into sampling or straight into production.

Starting From Scratch? That's Pattern Cutting Studio's Work
If you don't have a pattern yet, or your pattern needs rebuilding rather than refining, that's a different job. Full pattern development and grading are handled by our sister studio, Pattern Cutting Studio. It works to the same standards and knows exactly how the pattern will be used in our studio, so the handover to sampling or production is straightforward.
Catch Problems While They're Still Cheap to Fix
Toiling is the step that catches problems while they're still cheap to fix, not after a production run has started. A change on a toile is a change to calico and paper. The same change found after cutting can cost you the fabric, the making time and your delivery date.

Pattern revision and toiles start from £45 per hour + VAT. We'll give you a rough estimate before work begins, and like all our development work, the estimate is deliberately conservative. What to Bring to Your First Fitting
Bring your pattern, on paper or as digital files, and your tech pack if you have one. If you've chosen your fabric, bring a length or at least a swatch, because how the fabric behaves affects what the toile can tell us. Let us know whether you'd like the fit checked on a stand or on a live model, and what size your pattern is cut in.
